Not your average cat lady

Recently, I chatted with Katherine Carlton of Greenpoint about a feral cat colony that she helped start in her neighborhood. Katherine, 33, came to the project through Open Space Alliance and is working with Neighborhood Cats to complete the process. Neighborhood Cats performs Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) throughout the city, humanely controlling the overpopulation of feral cats. TNR consists of trapping feral cats, neutering them, and then returning them to their natural environment. This was Katherine’s first involvement with Neighborhood Cats; listen as she shares her experiences as a TNR first-timer.

Katherine explains her reaction to TNR:

Katherine shares a story that exemplifies the importance of TNR:

While Neighborhood Cats is a positive presence in communities, Katherine says that TNR is still a “messy reality”:

In order to trap the feral cats, they first need to be counted. Listen to Katherine and her TNR coach, Audrey, counting the cats for the new colony in Greenpoint:
