Dinner is served

Two years ago, the Greenpoint Reformed Church opened its doors to the hungry. Maybe twenty people trickled in for food. As the only soup kitchen in North Brooklyn, the hunger reduction program at the church grew quickly. Last Wednesday, on the second anniversary of the church’s soup kitchen, a crowd gathered outside before dinner even began. Because the soup kitchen is not a member agency of the Food Bank for New York, it subsists on donations, volunteers, and a tiny budget, but that hasn’t stopped the church from serving a fresh, hot meal every week.
