On October 25 Jordan Seiler, originator of Public Ad Campaign, organized hundreds of activists to take back their streets. Their fight wasn’t against drugs or other well know illegal activities, but street level advertising. It’s a fight he’s been trying to win for almost a decade.
On the 25th many of artists went out in waves, whitewashing signage and replacing it with pieces of art. Although five activists were arrested, Seiler has made it clear he and the movement against these advertisers will not be going away anytime soon. In mid-September he sat down with me to express some of his feelings on art, advertising, and why people should care about what he does.
