Crawling for tacos

Growing up in Long Island, food blogger Jeff Orlick wasn’t impressed with his culinary options. But since he moved to Jackson Heights, he has had the world of food at his fingertips. Orlick, who often travels by bicycle so he can experience the city in a more intimate way, doesn’t understand why many New Yorkers don’t have more adventurous taste buds.

That was one of the reasons he organized the Roosevelt Avenue Taco Crawl, a 30-block adventure that began near his apartment in Jackson Heights and ended with an after-party on 103rd Street in Corona.

In the blog post he wrote before the tour, Orlick put his enthusiasm this way:

I took an exploratory tour this past weekend and the street vendor scene is ripe! Tacos yes, but I’m more excited for the Ecuadorian trucks and the excuse to have the corn on a stick and churros. About every 4 blocks there is a new vendor and there are some blocks where the choices are heaven on earth. Whitney Ave is amazing! This should be a lot of fun. This might be the greatest eating experience yet.

Wow, this is great. It makes me want to move back to New York – tacos are pretty good out here in san diego though.

Haha. Of all foods to do a “crawl” for and they choose tacos. Don’t get me wrong, they’re delicious but I would rather do a pizza or gyro crawl. Do they do this every year?

This is really cool. A bunch of random people who don’t know each other get together and enjoy something they all have in common – tacos. Neat.
